I'm slowly making progress on cleaning out the spare bedroom so we can move Chris into his own room. Monday, I spent a good 8 hours purging and donating. At the end of the day, I had 7 bags of clothing and baby items for the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
How easy is it that I just had to schedule the pick up on-line, place the bags on my front porch and they picked it up?!
There is still a little left to do - mainly disassembling the desk and then steam cleaning the carpets. I took Thursday and Friday off so my plan is to have him moved in by the weekend!
In the meantime, I've been having a lot of fun putting together decorating ideas for the kids' new rooms. Surprisingly, Chris was an easy one. For the last year, he has LOVED anything fireman or fire trucks. I found a Pottery Barn Kids room on Pinterest that I fell in love with and knew he'd like it to.
OK. So, I still have my pre-kid Pottery Barn taste with a post-kid Target budget. A girl can dream.
Or, in my case? Figure out how to get the same look at an affordable price.
Here's my storyboard for Chris' room. It does show the PB Kids items and in some cases, I may still buy them.
The background color is the existing color in the room now. I think I'll probably paint a chocolate brown accent wall behind the headboard of the bed.
Their cribs will convert to full-size beds and they are an expresso finish.
I'm not an artist by any means but I think I might be able to re-create the fire truck canvas. It's $180 on PB Kids but doing it myself will cut the cost by 75%. Plus, he'll have a "Mommy original".
My mom is giving me a dresser they no longer need and ironically, it's about the same style as the picture. I just need to sand it and paint it red.
The plan for Kendall's room hasn't been as easy. She doesn't have a "passion" like Chris does. I've shown her pictures of rooms from the Pottery Barn catalogs and she seems so disinterested. When she refers to her new room, she calls it a princess room so I think anything girlie will be fine with her.
She'll be staying in their existing room. The wall color is almost the color of a Granny Smith apple. I really hate painting so I'm going to try to make it work by adding in pink.
I've had a really hard time finding a quilt that 1) has pink and green and 2) has chocolate brown in it. I needed a way to pull in the color of the converted crib frame (expresso finish). So, I think I'll have to bite the bullet and buy the PB Kids quilt for this one.
The window panels will be pink/white gingham. The canopy is $70 at PB Kids but thanks to Pinterest, I'm pretty sure I can make one for half that. An embroidery hoop, some tuile, ribbon and beads should do the trick.
I really love the Woodland Plaques but I think the 2 with the green background are too sage. I think I can re-create the butterfly and owl with scrap paper, Mod Podge and some wood. Pinterest has inspired me.
With the additional money that hubby will be making with the "new" job, I'll gradually buy the pieces I can't make.
What do you think?

i LOVE purple heart for that very reason. it can't get any easier!
the rooms look fun! makes me feel like a total slacker.
also don't forget about etsy. lots of pb-type stuff there for a fraction of the cost! :)
Great ideas - both rooms are going to look so cute!
I'll bet Kendall's room will be similar to Zoe's - I think you and I have similar pre-baby Pottery Barn Kids taste!!!
Her quilt is actually from there - it's the Hayley style with the birds and owls. We love it. And Zoe's crib converted, too, and looks just like the ones in your pics. I think it was made by Bonavita?
You can definitely re-create the artwork. Have fun! Can't wait to see it when you're done :)
Love them both! Etsy may also have some cute finds. I'm very impressed with your craftiness to 1) create the story board in the first place and 2) make some of the items yourself. Good luck and post some "after" pics.
So cute!! Yes, please update pics as you go along. Don't ya just LOVE Pintrest?!?
