ER Update

Egg retrieval went fine this morning. We got 10 eggs.

I was trying not to have false expectations because our last cycle gave us 16 and I knew that was pretty darn good. But, still, I was hoping for 12-14.

This time, they gave us the option to collect hubby's sample at home. As long as we were within 2 hours of the facility.

I don't know if you know anything about traffic in the DC Metro area? If you don't, let's just say getting anywhere within 2 hours is chancy, at best.

The facility is about 45 minutes away during non-rush hour times. We had to be there by 8:45am so we left the house at 7:30 and arrived at 8:43am.

DH did his thang at 7:00am before we left so we were just under the 2 hour cut-off. Now I'm all worried the sample wasn't as fresh as it could be.

DH joked and asked if we should cut holes in the top of the plastic cup and give his boys a stick and a piece of grass to gnaw on. He's such a funny boy.

I'm assuming they checked the viabiity of the sample before they let us leave, right? Anyone have any experience with this?

Well, I think it might be time for another Vicodin. I'm in a little more pain with this one. It's tolerable but hey! I have Vicodin - what girl in her right mind would let that go to waste?!

I'll post again over the next few days with fert reports.

Hei Suzanne,

2 things:

It's actually 'better' that your DH was able to take his sample at home. At home he's in an environment that he's used to and can be 'more relaxed' in so to speak. [Technically performing better thus producing a better sample than if it were taken in the lab].

After 2 hours only the motility of the sample goes down. This decreased motility does not affect the effectiveness/viability of the sample, especially since they're doing ICSI so the sperm doesn't have to swim to the egg. So bottom line, all is good.

Congrats on retrieval. Praying for and wishing you & DH the very best.

God Bless,
Anna

Not sure about the timing of the sample...but I just wanted to wish you lots of luck. 10 eggs is great! I hope you get a great fert report!
